Fortunately, the demo has an endgame portion to try with three of the four classes you play as in the prologue. There is the Knight, Oracle (mage), Barbarian, and Ranger type. The ranger class is not playble after the prologue is over. The ranger was my favorite one, its rain of arrows is so cool looking.
Unfortunately, the balance issues still existed, exept now I felt underpowered as both the Oracle and the Knight. The Barbarian was pretty cool and kicked butt and is the reason I'm still hopeful for the game. It felt good. I would need the other classes to be fixed up, though, to really enjoy the game. I'd rather play as the Oracle.
As the oracle, I was out of mana too often and couldn't manage the waves of enemies without having to stop in order to regenerate. You can learn to manage mana and play slower but it's not really fun having to run circles around your enemies or stopping between moving through the dungeon to wait for your mana to regen.
There's supposed to be some way to rebuild your character loadout or skill set in the demo. I briefly took a look at the skill tree but it was a bit overwhelming so I just didn't bother. That's where starting from level one would come in much handier but that is not how the demo is played. One of the developers explained that they had enough feedback in a previous phase of the game to have players start at higher levels in the demo rather than level one. I would disagree but I also don't know how the early game feels. I just know this demo doesn't feel that great. It's disappointing but I still intend to try the "full" version in Early Access.
Thanks for reading. Game on. If you're curious about some of my extra thoughts on this demo and similar games, check out my vlog below.
